Brother Larry Czjakowski Passes Away

czjakowskiINDIANAPOLIS, IN — June 28, 2017 — It is with sincere sadness that Phi Kappa Theta shares the loss of Brother Laurence (Larry) P. Czajkowski of Orange, CT at 70 years of age. He passed away on Monday, June 26 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT.

Czjakowski was born on December 30, 1946 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Leo and Louise DeJoseph Czajkowski and graduated from Fairfield University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. As an undergraduate, Laurence was a Founding Father of the Connecticut Epsilon Kappa Chapter and served as Social Chair and Associate Member Educator.


He retired from the US Army Reserve on August 7, 1997 after serving proudly as a Major in the Adjutant General’s Corp, where he also was an instructor for the US Army Command and General Staff College. A self-employed sales executive, he was an active member of the community, serving as past commander of the American Legion Post #127 in Orange, a volunteer liaison officer for the Connecticut Army Retiree Counsel, West Point Military Retiree Counsel and a member of the Orange Republican Town Committee.

He was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2009 by the Sons and Daughters’ of Italy – State of CT. He also was a Republican candidate for the Connecticut House of Representative, and a member of Knights of Columbus, Breen Chapter. In addition to his many volunteer roles he served diligently on the Phi Kappa Theta National Foundation Board of Trustees since 1996. During that time, he had served on the Grants and Scholarship Committee.

A devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife Janet Oster Czajkowski, daughters Tracy Knochen and her husband James of Cornwall, NY, Amanda Perla and her husband Josh Gelfand of Los Angeles, CA, brother Leo Czajkowski and his wife Jean of Trumbull, CT, and grandchildren Matthew, Christian, Brianna, Jordan, Tristan, Zachary, Gram and Tess.
