A New Chapter for Phi Kappa Theta

When Rene Farias and Ruben Castro first contacted Phi Kappa Theta about starting a new chapter last fall, their vision was similar to so many founding fathers. They wanted to start a chapter in which brothers would establish lifelong bonds through shared values and beliefs. Like many founders, they were looking for a valuable network of brothers that would remain connected both personally and professionally. However, this is where the similarities stop.
What makes the story of this chapter unique is that every founding father of the chapter has all been a fraternity brother for decades! On March 5, 2012, the Phi Kappa Theta San Antonio Alumni chapter became only the third chapter in Phi Kappa Theta's history to be established as a city-based chapter. The San Antonio Alumni chapter's membership is comprised of brothers representing six different collegiate chapters;
- East Texas State University
- North Texas State University
- Texas A&M University
- Texas A&M University – Kingsville
- Texas Pan American University
- University of Texas - Austin
The Chapter recognizes that it will have to create a fraternal experience that fits the lives of its brothers. "We have quite a diverse group of brothers living here in the city” said Farias. "We understand that our chapter will not always be about having lots of brothers attending large events like it was in college. Sometimes it will just be two or three of us getting together for lunch and that’s okay”.
We are very excited to see more chapters like the recently established San Antonio Chapter become established in even more cities throughout the country, providing us with that true network of brotherhood we were all sold on during recruitment. "To me, being a Phi Kap brother is a lifetime commitment and therefore I believe we should practice it in our daily lives.” said Farias. We look forward to living up to Brother Farias’ commitment.
There are currently two other city-based alumni chapters in Phi Kappa Theta, the Kansas City Area Alumni Chapter and the Washington, DC Area Alumni Chapter. For more information on learning how to start a city-based chapter in your area, please contact us.
